### A MASERATI AND AN ABARTH WALK INTO A BAR...
Nobody knows exactly what happened next, but we're fairly certain several bottles of Italian red wine were involved, because how else do you explain this?
Take one of the smallest cars on the road. Give it 180bhp, a wonderfully antisocial exhaust, an electric convertible roof, luxurious cream leather seats and a healthy dose of Maserati influence, then build just 499 of them.
Ladies and gentlemen, the **Abarth 695 Edizione Maserati**.
A car that makes absolutely no attempt to be sensible, and is all the better for it.
Developed as a more luxurious counterpart to the equally outrageous Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari, the Edizione Maserati was designed to combine Italian performance with a little grand-touring sophistication. Well, as sophisticated as a tiny turbocharged Italian convertible with a barking exhaust can possibly be.
Which, as it turns out, is quite sophisticated indeed.
### WHY THIS CAR?
**499 WORLDWIDE. AND THERE'S NOTHING QUITE LIKE IT.**
It's a genuinely limited-production model with distinctive styling, Maserati-inspired details and a specification that makes it rather special. Those gorgeous 17-inch Trident alloy wheels, the cream leather upholstery, upgraded JBL audio system and electrically retractable fabric roof give this little car a personality entirely its own.
And then there's the exhaust.
The Record Monza system provides a soundtrack that seems completely disproportionate to the size of the car producing it, you'll find yourself driving through tunnels with the windows down.
Repeatedly. We won't judge!
This example also benefits from a full service history, recent new tyres and comes complete with two keys and books.
### LET'S TALK ABOUT THAT GEARBOX.
Because we might as well address the elephant in the very small Italian room. The MTA transmission isn't a conventional automatic.
It's an electronically controlled manual gearbox, and if you drive it expecting the seamless behaviour of a modern dual-clutch transmission, you may wonder what on earth the Italians were thinking.
But there's a trick to it.
Understand how it works, use the paddles, ease the throttle slightly during changes and suddenly the whole experience makes considerably more sense. It becomes part of the occasion. Part of the involvement.
Part of what makes this little Abarth feel so different from the average modern car.
Is it for everybody? Probably not.
But then neither is an Italian sports car with a Maserati badge and a roof that disappears at the touch of a button.
### CONDITION
With approximately 90,000km travelled, this example comes with a full service history and has recently received new tyres.
It retains the distinctive Maserati edition details that make these cars so appealing, including the cream leather interior, Trident alloy wheels and electric fabric roof.
