The Ferrari Roma belongs firmly in the latter category. Conceived as Ferrari’s contemporary interpretation of the classic front-engined Gran Turismo, the Roma combines understated Italian elegance with the sort of performance that leaves absolutely no doubt about the badge on the nose.
This particular example is beautifully specified in Nero Daytona, paired with a rich Bordeaux leather interior. It is a wonderfully sophisticated combination: restrained and almost formal from the outside, yet unmistakably special once the door is opened.
Beneath the long bonnet sits Ferrari’s 3,855cc 90-degree twin-turbocharged V8, producing 456kW / 620cv and up to 760Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through Ferrari’s superb 8-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission, closely related to the gearbox originally introduced in the SF90 Stradale.
The numbers are appropriately serious: 0–100km/h in 3.4 seconds, 0–200km/h in 9.3 seconds and a top speed in excess of 320km/h.
Unlike Ferrari's more overtly track-focused models, the Roma was designed to be a genuine 2+ grand tourer—a car capable of covering distance comfortably and effortlessly, while still delivering the immediacy and involvement expected of a modern Ferrari.
Its front-mid-engine layout, rapid dual-clutch gearbox and beautifully responsive chassis give the Roma a lightness that belies its GT character. In Comfort it settles into an exceptionally accomplished long-distance car; start working through the Manettino settings and another personality emerges. Ferrari gives the Roma five settings—Wet, Comfort, Sport, Race and ESC-Off—allowing the character of the car to change considerably depending on the road and occasion.
And then there is the engine. Turbocharged it may be, but Ferrari engineered the Roma's Variable Boost Management system to progressively increase torque through the gears, giving it a more natural, increasingly urgent delivery as the revs build rather than simply overwhelming the rear tyres with low-rpm torque. It's an engine that encourages you to use the rev range—and one that makes the Roma feel distinctly Ferrari rather than simply like a very fast GT.
A superb colour combination. Nero Daytona is arguably one of the colours that best suits the Roma's shape. The metallic black finish allows the clean nose, long bonnet, heavily sculpted flanks and almost fastback rear profile to speak for themselves.
Inside, the specification becomes considerably more adventurous. The cabin is trimmed in Bordeaux leather, complemented by Nero carpets and an unusually considered combination of contrasting stitching: black stitching over the Bordeaux leather and Bordeaux stitching over the black leather sections.
It's subtle detailing, but exactly the sort of specification that makes a Ferrari feel individually commissioned rather than simply optioned.

It is a specification that suits the Roma perfectly. There are no unnecessary visual theatrics here; instead, the original owner has concentrated on the details that make the car enjoyable to look at, sit in and actually use.
Ferrari described the Roma philosophy as “La Nuova Dolce Vita”—a modern interpretation of the effortless glamour associated with Rome in the 1950s and '60s.
That description makes considerably more sense once you've spent time around one. This isn't a Ferrari that needs a racetrack or an early Sunday morning to justify itself. It's a Ferrari you can take away for the weekend, drive through the city, cover several hundred kilometres in and still choose the long way home.
And when the road opens up, there is still a 620cv Ferrari V8, an 8-speed F1 transmission and a chassis capable of 0–200km/h in little more than nine seconds waiting underneath you.
Finished in Nero Daytona over Bordeaux, and with a factory specification that places emphasis on both usability and detail, this is an exceptionally tasteful interpretation of Ferrari's modern V8 Gran Turismo.
